Our journey is beginning! Yesterday, many of the teams met in Stratford for an orientation day. For a lot of us, this was the first time meeting teammates and hearing what we will be doing while we are in Nicaragua. Joy and Peter King, trip coordinators, gave us some valuable information and shared stories of previous trips as well as some history behind NPH (the orphanage). We watched some videos as well as looked at some pictures of last years trip. You could feel the excitement in the room build as people began to converse with one another and finalize plans and goals for the trips (which are fast approaching!). We also met the director of FOTOCAN, Ken Speers, and Ruth, who is a native Nicaraguan who has immigrated to Canada and works at FOTOCAN. Ruth shared with the teams what we could expect while in Nicaragua. To top it off, we were privileged to take part in a Nicaraguan meal consisting of guacamole and corn tortilla chips, a rice and chicken dish, shrimp cocktail on corn tortillas, and a fruit sorbet. Thanks to Ruth's brother for preparing this delicious meal!
Please keep the teams in your thoughts and prayers as we continue the planning process and prepare to depart on our trips! Please pray that teammates are kept healthy before the trip as well as during, and that nerves are calmed as we continue to gather supplies and pack. Please pray that we are able to help our Nicaraguan brothers and sisters, and that we also keep an open heart to what the Lord has to teach us through them.
"I am the vine; you are the branches. If a man remains in me and I in him, he will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing." John 15:5
